AVIONIX was assigned a contract from EUROCONTROL for the delivery of monitoring stations that will be installed all over Europe. The AVIONIX solution is based on the openAir_duo 1030/1090 MHz monitoring station. The solution was selected due to its unique features and qualities. Two high performance SDR receiver channels in combination with a special 1030/1090 MHz cavity filter and the high processing power make it ideal for the purpose. The raw RF data is permanently recorded in a compressed form on the embedded 6TB HDD storage disk together with the decoded data and statistical records. Next to the very high sensitivity the receiver stations could convince with its degarbeling abilities and advanced decoding features. The stations decode Mode 1/2/3AC/S interrogations and replies on the 1030 and 1090 MHz frequencies. The presence of Mode 4 and 5 messages are detected. Each detected message is attributed with a highly precise timestamp, signal strength, SNR, frequency shift, strength of side lobe suppression pulse and other specific meta information.
30 stations are rolled out so far and they work reliably in 24/7 operation.
The openAir_duo receiver also exists in a 19″ rack version that offers redundant power supply and dual network option.
